How We Calculate This
The calculator works out how long it takes to vacuum a given area based on the vacuum's cleaning head width, forward speed and the number of passes.
Formula
Coverage per minute = head width (m) × forward speed (m/min)
Total time = (area × passes) ÷ coverage per minute
Head widths and speeds
- Upright: 30cm head, 15 m/min = 4.5 m²/min
- Cylinder: 25cm head, 12 m/min = 3.0 m²/min
- Cordless stick: 25cm head, 12 m/min = 3.0 m²/min
- Commercial upright: 38cm head, 18 m/min = 6.84 m²/min
- Backpack: 30cm head, 15 m/min = 4.5 m²/min
